Traditionally used

Bistort root has been traditionally used to treat diarrhea and intestinal inflammation due to its high tannin content. The plant is also applied externally to heal wounds and mouth ulcers, serving as both an internal digestive remedy and external vulnerary.

Prepared as

The dried root is prepared as a decoction by simmering 1-2 teaspoons in hot water for 10-15 minutes. For external use, a stronger decoction can be cooled and applied as a wash or compress.
