Lungwort

Traditionally used

Lungwort is a soothing chest herb, named for the leaf's likeness to lung tissue. Its mucilage and silica coat and loosen a raw, catarrhal airway, and it is taken as a honey-sweetened tisane, two or three times a day, for coughs and bronchial catarrh, often paired with a disinfectant herb such as thyme. The tannin lends a mild astringent turn against loose bowel. ⚠ A borage-family plant — keep to short courses.

Français — La pulmonaire est une plante pectorale adoucissante, nommée d'après la ressemblance de sa feuille avec le tissu pulmonaire. Son mucilage et sa silice tapissent et dégagent des voies respiratoires irritées et catarrhales ; on la prend en tisane sucrée au miel, deux à trois fois par jour, contre toux et catarrhes bronchiques, souvent associée à une plante désinfectante comme le thym.
