Alpine plantain — Plantago alpina, used in Haitian and Caribbean herbal tradition

Traditionally used

Alpine plantain shares the steadying gifts of its lowland kin. An infusion of the leaves fortifies the stomach and intestine, loosens catarrh, and helps clear the body of metabolic burden that settles into gouty, rheumatic stiffness. The bruised leaves are also laid on slow-healing wounds, bruises, and sprains, and a tisane of the seeds moves a sluggish bowel gently.
