Traditionally used
An astringent, faintly clove-scented root (it carries eugenol), rich in tannins. Taken traditionally as a cold-macerated decoction for diarrhoea and colic, and as a gargle or mouth rinse for inflamed gums and sore throat; a mild digestive bitter.

Français — Racine astringente au léger parfum de girofle (elle contient de l'eugénol), riche en tanins. Prise traditionnellement en décoction macérée à froid contre diarrhée et coliques, et en gargarisme ou bain de bouche pour gencives enflammées et gorge irritée; léger amer digestif.
