Common Groundsel — Senecio vulgaris, used in Haitian and Caribbean herbal tradition

Traditionally used

⚠ Documented, never use. Groundsel carries the alkaloid senecionine, which poisons the liver — it drives cirrhosis and the swelling of liver cells even at modest exposure — and in overdose brings on cerebral excitation, epileptic seizures, and death. Old practice used it as an emmenagogue only in combination and in trace, but there is no safe home preparation. This entry stands as a caution and a record, nothing more.
