Sweet violet — Viola odorata, used in Haitian and Caribbean herbal tradition

Traditionally used

Sweet violet flowers make a soothing cough tisane, easing dry bronchitis where secretion is scant and loosening what is stuck. Their salicylic character also opens the sweat glands, making them part of gentle spring metabolic cures. The flowers are infused alone, or blended with birch, elder, fennel, and liquorice.
