Prepared as

Bark decoction: boil small piece of bark in 2 cups water 20 minutes, drink half cup twice daily for diarrhea, fever, and inflammation. Leaf tea: boil handful 10 minutes for respiratory complaints. Heartwood chips boiled 30 minutes produce deep red dye used traditionally. Bark poultice applied to wounds and skin infections. Tannins provide strong astringent action for diarrhea.
