Buttonwood (manglye) — Conocarpus erecta, used in Haitian and Caribbean herbal tradition

Fever, inflammation, skin conditions, wounds, urinary complaints

Prepared as

Bark decoction: boil small piece of bark in 2 cups water 15 minutes, drink half cup twice daily for fever and infections. Leaf tea: boil handful 10 minutes for respiratory complaints. Bark poultice applied to infected wounds and skin conditions. Tannins in bark provide astringent and antimicrobial action — use no more than 2 weeks continuously.
